THE NOUNNUMBERS


Numbers are the distinction between nouns to express one thing or more than one thing.


There are two types of numbers:


1] Singular Number                             


2] Plural Number


Singular Number: A noun that denotes or points out one person, place or thing is called a noun in the singular number.    


       Example: Boy, king, dog, pen, etc


Plural Number: A noun that denotes or points out more than one person, place or thing is called a Noun in the plural number. 


Example: Boys, girls, women, cows, etc



POINTS TO REMEMBER:


1] Nouns that end in a hissing sound (ch,s,ss,sh or x) form their plurals by adding – es to the singular.


Example: glass – glasses


2] If the noun ends in – y and the – y has a Consonant before it, its plural is formed by changing –y into –ies.   


Example: body – bodies


3] If the noun ends in – f or – fe its plural is formed by changing into – ves    


Example: calf – calves


3] But – f or – fe of some nouns do not change  


Example: chief - chiefs


4] Most nouns ending in – o form their plurals by adding – es to the singular    


 Example: Buffalo - buffaloes
